Great food, lovely ambience, wonderful room

We just returned from a lovely day and evening at The Oundle Mill. Our room, the Mill Room, was lovely with a bath and a fire in the bedroom and a hot and powerful shower to boot. All the little extra's we've come to expect from this hotel group were in place. Lovely toiletries, sloe gin and choc's in the bedroom, cd and flat screen tv. The room itself is enormous and you feel you could happily stay there comfortably for a much longer period. The food was excellent and the only hard thing was choosing what to have. We actually considered having two starters each because it was almost too hard to choose. Each course was excellent and was beautifully presented. We weren't actually particularly hungry at breakfast but it's just too good to miss and so we both enjoyed full english which again is wonderfully cooked and presented with probably the best black (they call it blood) pudding I've ever had. The service is warm and friendly and we felt thoroughly looked after the whole time. A warm sunny morning gave us a chance to appreciate the beautiful views from our room and encouraged us to walk around Oundle itself and appreciate some lovely architecture. I would thoroughly recommend both the hotel and the restaurant.

A real treat

We visited late one August evening during a particularly arduous bike ride from Huntingdon to Peterborough (the long way round). After several hours of biking on a hot summers day we arrived at the Oundle Mill completely exhausted and were treated to quite simply a wonderful experience. The venue itself is magnificent. A really interesting, old mill sitting atop the River Nene, watching carefully over the adjacent lock and mill pond. The building is beautifully restored with a tasteful modern take bringing out the classic features such as the water wheel. The food is a real treat too, much like the venue, fresh local produce, mixing traditional dishes with more adventurous modern cuisine. Incredibly friendly and helpful staff (even bringing our food outside so we could eat overlooking the lilly pond). The whole evening was a real treat, and we stayed well after dark enjoying the extensive wine list.

The Oundle Mill is highly recommended.

Anniversary stay

We stayed here for our anniversary in the Lucom Room and had dinner and breakfast. A wonderful place, beautiful room and great food and service. As you arrive at reception there is a glass floor with the mill water rushing underneath. The Lucom Room is very small as this is the old mill hoist loft (which overhangs) but it was delightful. Complimentary sloe gin by the bed, Bose sound system etc. A fridge has complimentary water, freshly squeezed orange and fresh milk. Very nice bathroom with massive rainwater shower. Very luxurious, very comfortable and clean. Evening meal was brilliant, attentive staff, very good food and great choice. Breakfast was again excellent. Delightful surroundings. Very good, could not find fault!

Talk about a room of our own

We were blown away with the room here - it's huge! It reminded me of a ski chalet - stunning wooden beams and intricate lighting system suspended from them. Contemporary fireplace and huge freestanding bath in the room. Big bed and sumptuous soft furnishings. Room is stunning and no expense spared on the details. Super quiet too as only 2 rooms in the whole place, you certainly feel exclusive! Contemporary restaurant serving good food and enthusiastic and friendly serving staff. Country setting right by the river. If you can, make sure you visit the village of Oundle, it is beautiful and like begin transported into a history lesson.
